Charlie is Sick

Charlie
Earlier this week, I was surprised to see Charlie actually have an accident at home.  Worse is that he actually did it beside me without me noticing it!  I was so mad at him because he is completely toilet trained and never had accidents before, maybe one or two but only pee and not poop!  I scolded him right after "catching him in the act" and told him not to do it again.  However, he did it again on the same day after a few minutes and that is when I noticed that his poop was actually very loose and watery then I it just hit me big time that my little booger is sick and has diarrhea.  I was so ashamed of myself of having scolded the little booger without actually having realized that it wasn't really his fault at all. He was sick and he could not keep it in himself anymore.  I mean hey, even us humans cannot contain our poops if we have diarrhea.

I went online immediately and look for things and home remedies for dogs with diarrhea.  I was so relieved to know that it is self limiting and will not a visit to the Vet except when the poop is foul smelling (I mean really, really foul) and has blood and/or worms.  I was so glad Charlie's is nothing close to these.

Anyhow, the first thing to do when your doggy gets an upset stomach is to fast him for 24 hours - meaning the poor thing should not eat for one day (yes you've read it right - one whole day).  Make sure that the doggy has a supply of fresh and clean water.  You can add a bit of Probiotics or rehydration salts just to keep him hydrated.  Do not give any medication unless prescribed by the Vet!  The danger of overdosage is high so you'd better leave it to the experts.  After 24 hours, you can start feeding your dog with boiled white rice with chicken stock and shredded chicken meat without the skin in a few amount.  I added a bit of salt for added taste.  As an alternative, you could also give your doggy white rice plus sauteed minced beef without the fat/oil.  Remember to give food only in small amounts two or three times a day for three days.  When the stool starts to firm up a bit, you can gradually add his regular dog food to the white rice + chicken or white rice + beef combination until such time that his tummy is again ready for his regular doggy treats.

I am so glad that my Charlie is better now.  Oh before I forget, make sure to give your doggies a lot of tender love and kisses.  I am pretty sure that these can make them even better and recover faster.

Crafting with Kids: Bumble Bee

My kids love watching "Buzzbee" on Disney Junior.  So this time around, we made our own version of a bumble bee.  Whenever we do crafts like this, I make it a point that Xanti, my youngest one, will be able to do it with only minimal assistance from me.  This bumble bee is so simple to make and the materials are readily available and rather cheap, if not, free.

The materials we used were:
  1. Tissue roll
  2. Colored pens
  3. Pipe cleaners
  4. Googly eyes
  5. Yellow art paper
  6. Black art paper
  7. Pompoms

Materials
First, cut a circle using the yellow art paper.  This will serve as the bee's face.  Glue the googly eyes onto it, followed by the pompoms for the bee's nose.  Ask your child to draw the mouth or you could use other materials for this purpose, too, if you like.

Making the face
Once you're done with the face, let's move on to the bee's body.  Cut a rectangle using the yellow art paper.  The length and width of the paper should just be enough to cover the whole tissue roll.  Glue this to the tissue roll.  Cut a narrower piece of paper, this time using the black art paper.  Glue this around the tissue roll  at about the middle part of it over the yellow art paper.

Stick it
Stick the face on the upper part of the tissue roll.  Draw a pair of bee wings on the yellow art paper, cut it and stick it on the back side of the tissue roll.  Tape the pipe cleaner on the upper part of the tissue roll, at the back of the bee's face.  This will then become the bee's antenna.

Tadaaa!
You are now done with your bumble bee :).  Have fun and enjoy playing with it.

Kawloon Chinese Restaurant

This post has long been overdue.  Let me introduce you to our favorite restaurant - Kawloon Chinese Restaurant.  This restaurant is hidden behind the area of Choitram Khalidiya.  It does not look fancy nor and to be frank, its ambience is just one of those typical Chinese restaurants here in the UAE, meaning it is small, dark and crowded.

Let me tell you this, I usually dine not for the ambience but rather for the food and that is why this is our favotire restaurant.  The food tastes amazingly good at such an affordable price.

Whenever me and my family go to this restaurant, we usually order these, from soup, appetizer to entree.

For the soup, we always order this Chicken Manchow soup with crispy noodles on top.  The soup is rich, thick and creamy.  The noodles also offer the kick and typically give the soup its kick.  It is not boring to eat compared to other soups, as there is something to nibble from this soup.

Next is the fried dumplings.  I am not a fan of this, but my kids are.  They love the crunchiness of the dumplings; however, I say that the filling is lacking.  I thik that the wrapper is too much and the filling is too little.

Fried dumplings
The egg fried rice doesn't have all the ingredients compared to the mixed fried rice; however we prefer to order this one because we will not appreciate the flavor of the other dishes if the fried rice to begin with is so flavorful.  We might end up eating just the fried rice :)

Egg fried rice
The Singapore noodles has a distinct flavor compared to other oriental noodles.  I love the thickness of the noodles itself.  It does not taste typical Chinese.  It is spicy and crunchy that is why we always have this on our Kawloon table.  Oddly, it tastes better if you drizzle a bit of spicy vinegar on it.

Their fried chicken is to die for.  I do not know what herbs and spices they are putting on this chicken, but I can finish a whole chicken if given a chance, hahaha!  My kids love this and always ask for it.  You have an option to make it spicier too, if your tastebuds are longing for something spicy.

Lastly, this Kawloon special is made up of beef and brocolli but with a different sauce.  It is not the typical one with oyster sauce.  It is somewhat sour and salty to the taste, but the mixture was so good we ended up always ordering it whenever we're at Kawloon.

If you are looking for great tasting food that is very affordable, I suggest that you give Kawloon a try.
